The Ohio State basketball team has suffered its second casualty of 2025 courtesy of the transfer portal. Junior Evan Mahaffey has made a decision to look for greener pastures in his final year of college eligibility. He joins sophomore Austin Parks who also plans to move on from the Buckeyes.
A Cincinnati native and standout player at Archbishop Moeller, Mahaffey began his career in State College where he appeared in 34 games as a true freshman at Penn State and averaged 2.9 points per game and 1.7 rebounds. His Pennsylvania stay would be short-lived as he left after just one season and joined OSU.
After joining Ohio State, he would make an immediate impact where he started 35 of 36 games for the Buckeyes. However, under new coach Jake Diebler, Mahaffey only started 3 games this past season. He saw a drop in playing time and production in his third year and thus will be moving on in hopes of finding a landing spot for his final year of collegiate basketball.

While Mahaffey didn't put up staggering numbers by any stretch, his leadership on and off the court will be what is missed the most, as well as his solid defensive play.
