Ohio State football star set to throw first pitch at Cleveland Guardians home opener

It's been quite the year for Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer. Some amazing highs along with some incredible lows all culminating with a play that will go down as one of the greatest in all of Buckeye football history as well as a national championship. The accolades will continue to come as Sawyer waits just a few more weeks before finding out where he'll begin his NFL career.

Yet another highlight of Sawyar's fairytale year will be happening on Tuesday, April 8 when the Cleveland Guardians play their home opener. At every home game in Major League Baseball, there is a ceremonial first pitch marking the start of the game. Throwing out that first pitch for Cleveland? Ohio State's very own Jack Sawyer.

The OSU defensive lineman will be throwing the pitch to Steve Colavito, son of the late Rocky Colavito. Rocky was an outfielder for Cleveland in the 1950s and 60s.

Growing up playing baseball in his youth, Sawyer seems to be excited for his chance to get back on the mound. He told Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch "Getting back on the rubber will be like riding a bike... hopefully," he said. "I'll probably hit about 80 miles per hour. Throw it right down the pipe."

Sawyer will join a long list of former Buckeyes to throw out a first pitch in Cleveland including, cornerback Denzel Ward, defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr, and head basketball coach Jake Diebler to name a few.

The Guardians will take on the Chicago White Sox at 4:10 ET on Tuesday, April 8 for their home opener.
