No. 4 FSU baseball sweeps ACC opener against Boston College with doubleheader victory

Florida State baseball completed a sweep of Boston College with a pair of wins in a doubleheader on Saturday.

With the wins, the No. 4 Seminoles (18-1) start ACC play with a 3-0 record and sweep a fifth consecutive series at home.

The Seminoles hit nine home runs across the three games, with four Friday night and five in the pair of games on Saturday.

FSU allowed two earned runs all weekend, and all three starting pitchers for the Seminoles struck out eight.

Jamie Arnold returned to the mound in game one for FSU, striking out eight and allowing one hit in 4.2 innings pitched. He showed little signs of rust after missing his start last week.

The Seminoles run-ruled the Eagles in game one with a 14-0 win.

Myles Bailey started the scoring with a three-run home run to dead center field, going 113 MPH off the bat. It was his sixth home run of the year.

FSU added three more in the second inning with a bases clearing double from Alex Lodise. He sent a ball down the left field line and scored Nathan Cmeyla, Jaxson West and Gage Harrelson, who tripped rounding third and still made it to home in time to score.

Harrelson extended his hit streak to 18 in game one, going 4-for-5 with a trio of singles and a two-run home run, recording four RBI. His single in the third inning scored Cmeyla and Faurot.

West put the Seminoles into run-rule territory in the fourth inning with a two-out double that scored a pair. After struggling to convert hard contact into hits to start the year, West has found a groove, going 7-for-9 to start ACC play.

FSU added insurance to its run-rule lead with a four-run sixth inning. Brody DeLamielleure reached on an error that scored two before Harrelson hit a two-run homer to right field, making it 14-0.

Chris Knier, who replaced Arnold in the fifth, finished the game with 2.1 innings pitched, three strikeouts and one hit allowed.

Wes Mendes started game two and dazzled with eight strikeouts and four hits allowed in seven innings pitched. He allowed one unearned run in the fifth inning and was a key to the 6-1 FSU win.

The Seminoles offense started the second game the same way it finished the first, scoring three runs in the first inning. Williams hit a two-run home run to open the scoring, his sixth of the year, before a West sac fly scored one more.

FSU's offense went cold for the next four innings, with the Eagles recording an unearned run in the fifth. Mendes recorded a strikeout with a runner on second; however, the strikeout pitch went to the backstop and Hunter Carns missed his throw to first base, allowing the runner on second to score.

It remained a 3-1 game until a Brody DeLamielleure single in the sixth scored West. In the seventh, Williams put an exclamation mark on the day with an opposite-field solo home run, his second of the day and seventh of the year, a team high.

Faurot added a solo-shot in the eighth inning to make it 6-1 and tie Williams for a team-high seven home runs this season. He surpassed his home run total from last year, where he played 56 games, in 19 games.

Harrelson went hitless in game two, ending his hit streak at 18 games.

Pitching was the story of game two, as Mendes's seven innings of work were followed by two scoreless innings from Maison Martinez, who struck out three and allowed one earned run in the ninth.

The Seminoles face Mercer on Tuesday at 6 p.m. from Dick Howser Stadium before a road trip to face rival Miami.
