No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners beat Missouri Tigers 8-0 in five innings
The Oklahoma Sooners kept the good times rolling on Friday night with an 8-0 run-rule win over the Missouri Tigers. Oklahoma moved to 28-0 on the season, 7-0 in SEC play, and have now won 31 in a row dating back to the 2024 Women's College World Series.
Against a pitching staff that ranked 99th in the nation in team ERA, the Sooners had the long ball going on a windy day in Columbia. Each of Oklahoma's eight runs came via Sooners home runs.
The Sooners opened the scoring in the top of the first when Abigail Dayton led off the game with a walk and third baseman Nelly McEnroe-Marinas singled to put two on with nobody out. After a Kasidi Pickering strikeout, true freshman shortstop Gabbie Garcia launched a three-run home run to right field to put the Sooners up 3-0. It was Garcia's 10th home run of the season and extended her hitting streak to 14 games.
The Sooners were retired in order in the second and third inning,s but pitcher Sam Landry was dealing once again to make Garcia's home run hold up.
Coming into the game, Landry hadn't allowed a run in 13.2 innings over four games and didn't allow a run in her five innings of work against the Tigers. Landry allowed multiple base runners in the third and fourth innings, but was able to get out of the jams to keep Missouri off the board. She's now thrown 18.2 consecutive scoreless innings and moved to 8-0 on the season.
Though they were held scoreless since the first inning, the Sooners erupted for five more runs in the top of the fifth when McEnroe-Marinas hit a two-run homer to make it 5-0. Then Ella Parker broke out of a slump in a big way with a three-run home run to put the game in run-rule territory.
Landry worked a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fifth to finish off the Tigers.
The left side of the infield continues to dominate for the Sooners as McEnroe-Marinas and Garcia were the only Sooners to record multiple hits in the win. They combined to go 4-for-6, with two home runs, five RBIs, four runs scored, and four put outs in the field.
