Nico Iamaleava landing spots: Where might the star Tennessee QB transfer?

The NCAA transfer portal landed a major talent at quarterback as Tennessee has reached an NIL impasse with Nico Iamaleava.

Iamaleava threw for 2,616 yards, 19 touchdowns and five interceptions last year for the Vols in his first full season as a starter in Knoxville. The team went 10-3 overall and 6-2 in SEC play, earning a spot in the College Football Playoff.

However, an NIL dispute between Iamaleava and Tennessee has prematurely ended the quarterback's time with the program. Such is life in this era of college football, as Iamaleava will now be one of the top names in the spring transfer pool.

While he cannot transfer to an SEC school due to conference rules, he will undoubtedly land with a new team sooner than later. Let's break down five of the most intriguing options.

Bill Belichick coaching in Chapel Hill is still such a strange sentence to type, but he's probably going to play the transfer portal well. Plenty of college football players will want to spend time with one of the best football coaches of all time, and Iamaleava might be his next big transfer win.

There is a clear path for Iamaleava to earn the starting job for the Tar Heels this season, and he's got the experience needed to help North Carolina seriously contend in the ACC and beyond. This might be Iamaleava's best match if he wants to get with a coaching staff who can help him ascend to the next level.

Oregon

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning looks to the clock towards the end of the first half as the Oregon Ducks face the Ohio State Buckeyes Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, in the quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

Dan Lanning has very recently thrived with a transfer quarterback in Dillon Gabriel, so could Iamaleava be next? Oregon could use a player of Iamaleava's caliber this fall on the ...
