Nick Nurse addresses report that Tyrese Maxey's out for the season

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers are in the process of finishing up the 2024-25 season amid a ton of injuries. It has been a disappointing campaign all around as the Sixers will fall well short of their championship expectations.

There have been a ton of injuries up and down the roster and the latest injury is to star guard Tyrese Maxey. The fifth-year guard out of Kentucky has not played since March 3 and when considering the fact that there are only a handful of games left, it wouldn't make sense to bring him back.

A report by ESPN's Shams Charania came out on Thursday that the expectation was that Maxey would be out for the rest of the season. However, coach Nick Nurse hasn't heard that.

"First of all, he's just out for this evening, right?" Nurse said on Thursday before a matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks. "I think we talked about--he had to work out. He did have another work out--I think I mentioned it before. The first one didn't go that great. He had another one. He did receive more imaging as well, but our medical has told me he's just out for tonight."

When asked directly if the ESPN report was inaccurate, Nurse said: "I don't know. I'm just telling you what they told me that he's out for this evening."

The Sixers will have five games left in the 2024-25 season after the matchup with the Bucks. When considering the fact that they are fighting for lottery positioning, it doesn't make sense to bring Maxey back.
