NFL executive says New York Giants are 'praying' for specific draft scenario

As the 2025 NFL draft approaches, ongoing speculation suggests the New York Giants will target a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick.

Miami's Cam Ward would be the preferred option for general manager Joe Schoen, but he will almost certainly go No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans. What happens after that is anyone's guess. Many believe the Cleveland Browns will take either Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter or Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter with that pick.

That's certainly what the Giants hope, anyway.

An anonymous AFC executive recently told ESPN's Matt Miller that the Giants are "praying" for the Browns to take Hunter or Carter with that pick, leaving them with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at No. 3.

"The Giants are praying that Cleveland takes one of Hunter or Carter because they'd [otherwise] miss out on a QB for the second straight year," the executive said.

The Giants agreed to terms with quarterback Jameis Winston on Friday night, but it has always been their plan to pair a rookie with a veteran. Their latest move will obviously not preclude that from happening.

It was also recently reported that the Giants attended every single Colorado game this past season, essentially following Sanders around the county. If true, that gives a strong indication that Deion's son will, in fact, be their target in late April.

Whether or not Sanders is he right choice for the Giants is open to interpretation but at least one AFC executive strongly believes that's who they're "praying" for.
