NFL Draft: Texans host East Carolina CB Shavon Revel for top-30 visit

A potential defensive back prospect recently stopped by to visit with the Houston Texans.

According to ESPN's D.J. Bien-Aime, East Carolina University cornerback a potential first-round talent Shavon Revel, visited the Texans on Friday. According to KRPC2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the visit was one of several in the southeastern region as Revel also visited the New Orleans Saints earlier this week.

Revel would have been potentially the top cornerback prospect in next month's draft, but a torn ACL suffered in late September cost him the rest of the 2024 season. In three games with the Pirates, the 6-foot-2 defensive back notched two interceptions, three pass breakups, a pick-six and four tackles.

He's expected to be cleared for contact by the start of training camp this summer. Pro Football Focus Revel gave the All-AAC defender an 87.0 coverage grade, which at the time led all FBS defensive backs.

As a junior, Revel started all 12 games, totaling 54 tackles, 12 pass breakups and an interception. He also posted an 81.5 Pro Football Focus defensive grade, allowing 19 receptions on 43 targets for 250 yards and one touchdown reception.

The Texans’ secondary is loaded with All-Pro corner Derek Stingley Jr., safeties Calen Bullock and Jimmie Ward, breakout rookie cornerback Kamari Lassiter, nickel defender Jalen Pitre and the do-it-all defender C.J. Gardner-Johnson. NFL teams can always use more talent in the secondary, though after landing Garnder-Johnson for two seasons, Houston might wait until after its first four picks to address the secondary since offensive line woes remain a priority.

The Texans have seven picks in the upcoming draft, including four in the top 100.
