Nets' Cam Johnson (rest) out Thursday at Pacers
The Brooklyn Nets (23-46) have just 13 games left in the season as they seek to end the 2024-25 campaign on a strong note since they are most likely not making it to the play-in tournament. Brooklyn is still in the midst of a road trip that next takes them to the Indiana Pacers on Thursday, but they will be doing so without one of their best players throughout this season.
The Nets announced on Wednesday that forward Cam Johnson is out for Thursday's game at the Pacers due to rest after Brooklyn is coming off a tough 104-96 loss at the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. Johnson played 29 minutes in the contest against a Celtics team missing Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but he had one of his quieter games of the season with 11 points, two rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one blocks.
Johnson did not seem like he was tired during Tuesday's loss in Boston, but it is possible that the Nets are going to try to give some players rest after a long season that saw Brooklyn gut it out on the floor each game for head coach Jordi Fernandez. The good news is that everyone else is available aside from Reece Beekman, Tosan Evbuomwan, Tyson Etienne, and Dariq Whitehead as they remain in the G League.
That is notable given that forwards Ziaire Williams and Noah Clowney made their return to the court on Tuesday after recovering from their respective injuries enough to be able to play. Williams was dealing with left Achilles soreness while Clowney was coming back from a right ankle sprain that had cost him three games prior to Tuesday's loss at the Celtics.
Guard D'Angelo Russell, who was available for Tuesday's contest after missing Sunday's 122-114 over the Atlanta Hawks, is also good to go despite the team not bringing afraid to rest him as he continues to play through his right ankle injury or lingering soreness. Russell had one of his tougher games of the campaign as while he had 18 points and seven assists, he shot just 6-of-18 from the field and 4-of-13 from three-point land.
Nets say that Cam Johnson is OUT for tomorrow's game at the Pacers due to rest.
