Nebraska basketball is one of several schools that have scheduled a Zoom call with Virginia transfer forward Elijah Saunders. This was reported by 247Sports Dushawn London on Thursday.
Saunders recorded 10.4 points and 5.0 rebounds last season for Virginia. He played in 29 games as a junior for the Cavaliers, starting 26 of them. Before his time at Virginia, he played at San Diego State. He played in a career-high 37 games for the Aztecs in 2023-24.
The Huskers currently have five transfer portal commitments, all coming within the last week. The emphasis on scoring is clear, and the coaching staff has prioritized this in the portal.
Saunders would give the Huskers a playmaker and another shooter. He shot 42% from the field. In addition, his size also allows him to be a mismatch. He measures in at six-foot-eight, 225 pounds.
The Huskers will undoubtedly have their work cut out for them if they want to land Saunders. Even still, it’s hard to deny that he would be a solid fit in their offensive system. It will be interesting to see where this recruitment goes.
