Memphis basketball guard Baraka Okojie enters transfer portal
Memphis basketball guard Baraka Okojie officially entered the transfer portal Tuesday, he told The Commercial Appeal.
The 6-foot-1 Canadian who began his career at George Mason is the second player from coach Penny Hardaway's 2024-25 roster to formally make the move. Freshman guard Jared Harris jumped into the portal earlier Tuesday.
Okojie played sparingly much of the season, slotting in behind Tyrese Hunter and Dante Harris. Appearing in 31 games, Okojie made two starts and averaged 1.5 points and 1.2 assists in 11.2 minutes a game. He started the final two games of the season (the AAC tournament championship win over UAB and the March Madness loss to Colorado State) after Hunter went down with a left foot injury.
"I enjoyed my time this season and the city and my teammates and what we did," Okojie told The Commercial Appeal Monday.
Memphis is facing another roster rebuild, already losing Hunter, Nicholas Jourdain, Colby Rogers and Moussa Cisse to expired eligibility. First-team All-AAC big man Dain Dainja's eligibility status is unclear, as he has expressed a desire to pursue another season.
PJ Haggerty, PJ Carter, Dante Harris, Damarien "Dink" Yates and Bouna Kebe (who redshirted this season) each have eligibility remaining and could be back at Memphis next season.
So far, the Tigers have commitments from Overtime Elite guard Daniel Vieira-Tuck and Eastern Florida State College guard Felipe Patino.
If those seven players are at Memphis next season, it leaves Hardaway with six open scholarships.
