Mason Rudolph has received a nod of approval from a former teammate he once claimed he wasn't "close" with—none other than legendary former Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger.
On Big Ben's podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, co-host Spencer Te'o stated that the team would need a quarterback who can be a game manager and deliver passes to the Black and Gold playmakers.
Roethlisberger wasted little time in complimenting Rudolph:
"Mason can do that. Mason can throw the ball and make decisions," Big Ben stated. "That's never been a question. He can make decisions and get the ball out of his hand. He's not afraid to take shots down the field either."
He finished his praise by analyzing the type of quarterback play the Steelers need with star wide receivers DK Metcalf and George Pickens—and ultimately concluded that Rudolph is a great match.
It's encouraging to hear Roethlisberger speak positively about his former teammate, as their relationship was long believed to be strained. Big Ben took the drafting of his potential replacement in 2018 harshly, and Rudolph stated in 2023 that they "weren’t close," despite spending four seasons together.
Will Rudolph get his time to shine and prove Big Ben right? Or will potential Steelers signee Aaron Rodgers swoop in and steal the 2025 starting QB job?
