Manchester City may face a battle to sign the ideal full-back for Pep Guardiola’s squad
There is an obvious need for Manchester City to sign a full-back or two this summer. That has been obvious for some time now. There are a host of full-backs who could greatly improve Pep Guardiola’s squad. But one player in particular does stand out as the ideal player for the Manchester City squad. That is Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso. Now a new report indicates that a transfer ‘battle’ may be looming to sign the Italian international. It’s simply a race Manchester City must win if they are to land the perfect player for the position for their squad.
Michel Sakr has relayed a report from Italian journalist Nicollo Ceccarini for TuttoMercatoWeb for juvefc.com that Manchester City will face competition to sign Andrea Cambiaso in the summer. Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are named as clubs that are also interested in signing the Italian international. Lastly, it is reported that Juventus are likely to demand €65 million to sell Andrea Cambiaso in the summer.
If a race to sign Andrea Cambiaso does ensue in the summer Manchester City must win that particular race. It takes a particular set of skills to play in a Pep Guardiola side. Cambiaso has those in abundance. He is a versatile player who can play at either left or right-back. Cambiaso also possesses the technical ability to play as an inverted full-back or as a traditional wing-back. These attributes alone would make Cambiaso a fine addition to the Manchester City squad. You factor those attributes in with his tremendous technical ability and you can see why he is almost the ideal player for Manchester City to sign in the summer.
Summary.
It is no surprise to see a host of clubs credited with an interest in Andrea Cambiaso. He is a fine player. But you do sense that City simply must sign him in the summer. He is the perfect player to fill a sizable void in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Finding a player with his particular skill set is no easy task. But if he is the player that City desire to fill the full-back position they must beat the competition to secure his signature. If they do they could add the perfect full-back for their squad.
