Man Utd target Jarrad Branthwaite 'to consider future' after England snub
Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite is reportedly evaluating his future at Everton this summer after being overlooked once again for a place in the senior England squad.
United, having pulled out of negotiations for Branthwaite, turned their attention to securing the signings of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt for their centre-back positions.
However, with United appointing Ruben Amorim as manager, who utilizes a 3-4-3 formation that demands three starting centre-backs, they are expected to continue their search for defensive reinforcements this summer.
Furthermore, the serious injury to Lisandro Martinez, combined with the potential departures of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans, creates the need for at least one more defensive addition at Old Trafford.
Reports suggest that United remains keen on the English defender and is willing to meet Everton’s asking price for the highly sought-after 22-year-old.
Sky Sports has reported that Branthwaite is expected to give further consideration to his future at Everton after being omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad. The Toffees are bracing for renewed interest in the defender this summer, having already rejected multiple bids from Manchester United last year.
Branthwaite made his sole appearance for the England senior team in 2024 during a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, he was excluded from the 26-man squad that reached the final of Euro 2024.
With the summer transfer window on the horizon, it’s believed that Branthwaite is now weighing whether a move to a club competing at the top of the Premier League could improve his chances of international selection.
The centre-back has two years remaining on his contract with Everton, with an option for a third year, and has previously expressed willingness to extend his deal. However, formal negotiations have yet to take place. It’s clear that Everton will struggle to match the financial power of elite clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Real Madrid, all of whom have been linked with the young defender.
United made multiple attempts to sign Branthwaite last summer, with a £43m bid being rejected by Everton in July. The Toffees valued the player closer to £70m, and with continued interest from top-tier clubs, it remains to be seen where Branthwaite’s future lies.
