Manchester United are reportedly looking to pair Liam Delap with a second striker who could well be Matheus Cunha.
Although Ipswich and Wolves are having complicated campaigns, the two aforementioned stars still managed to earn plaudits for their individual displays.
After making the move from Man City, Delap has been enjoying an impressive first full season in the Premier League. He has already bagged 12 goals while catching the eye with his imposing physique and ‘nasty attitude’.
The Red Devils are desperate to sign a new marksman who can be an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund, and Delap’s stocks have been on the rise, as INEOS are said to be pondering a move for the 22-year-old Englishman. He reportedly has a release clause of £30 million that can be activated upon Ipswich’s relegation.
But as Give Me Sport explains, recruiting the young centre-forward won’t be sufficient for Ruben Amorim’s plans, as the club believes a classic Number 10 is required as well.
Man United targetting Delap & Cunha attacking partnership
The source claims the United directors have identified Cunha as the ideal profile to link up with Delap upfront. The 25-year-old Brazilian has been on sensational form this season, producing 15 goals and four assists in 29 appearances in all competitions.
Despite recently signing a contract renewal, the versatile attacker is still tipped to leave Wolves in pursuit of greener pastures.
The report confirms Newcastle United have made an approach, but they were turned down by Cunha who prefers to join a ‘traditional Top Six’ club.
So despite their current struggles, Man Utd still have the power and charm to lure some of the most exciting talents to Old Trafford, but they might have to splash £62.5 million to activate Cunha’s release clause.
Therefore, United will likely have to fund these operations by offloading some of their current attackers, perhaps Rasmus Hojlund who reportedly still has admirers in Italy.
