Chelsea and Manchester United are the two clubs who have “active contacts” about a deal for Liam Delap according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are set for another busy summer and could look to fund their moves in the market by selling as many as seven or eight players.

Chelsea face a critical window with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

The Blues reportedly have a five man striker shortlist, and it’s vital they sign a centre forward having failed to do so last summer and in January.

Chelsea paid the ultimate price with both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu getting injured against West Ham on deadline day, although Jackson has now returned.

Maresca’s men have been strongly linked with Delap, who has a release clause of around £30m if Ipswich get relegated.

It’s believed over half the clubs in the Premier League are monitoring his situation, and the 22-year-old has scored an impressive 12 league goals in a struggling Ipswich side.

As well as competition from United the likes of Bayern Munich and AC Milan are also said to be interested, but Romano has now provided another update.

“Chelsea and Man United are the two clubs with active contacts to understand what happens with Delap,” he told his YouTube channel.

Maresca knows Delap well having coached him in the academy at Manchester City and he was part of the side along with Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia which won the Premier League 2 title.
