LSU catcher Luis Hernandez hits home run against Texas off of former teammate
LSU baseball's Luis Hernandez hit his third home run of the season against Texas during Friday's game and it was against a former teammate.
The catcher and Longhorns' pitcher Jared Spencer played together at Indiana State for three years before transferring to SEC schools ahead of 2025, comping a 115-54-1 record.
The homer in the top of the fourth inning when LSU was trailing 1-0. With a man on base nobody out, Hernandez crushed a 1-2 pitch to left field, putting the Tigers in front by one.
In his inaugural season donning the purple and gold, Hernandez established himself as the starter behind the plate. He is batting .264 with 14 hits and nine runs through 17 appearances.
Through three seasons with the Sycamores, Hernandez batted .314 with 182 hits. In his junior year, Hernandez recorded 89 hits, 76 RBI and 23 home runs while batting .359, which put him on the radar as a prime transfer portal prospect.
