AC Milan nearly turned things around against Fiorentina last night, but had to settle for a point in the end. As highlighted by Andrea Longoni, Sergio Conceicao’s decision-making was far from flawless.
In addition to taking Yunus Musah off after just 23 minutes, resulting in the American running down the tunnel, the manager made three late changes when only one was forced: Joao Felix for the injured Santiago Gimenez, Warren Bondo for Youssouf Fofana and Samuel Chukwueze for Christian Pulisic.
Andrea Longoni has questioned the triple sub in his latest editorial for MilanNews, highlighting the fact that Milan had the momentum to score a third goal. Instead, the game slowed down and the Rossoneri struggled to create really dangerous chances.
“In the end, Milan could have even won the game. The feeling is that the triple substitution in the 79th minute (only Gimenez was forced) created confusion and interrupted a moment that was positive,” he writes.
The decision to start Musah, only to take him off almost immediately, is by far the worst though. It has happened before this season, more specifically against Lazio, so the question is why Conceicao continues to choose the 22-year-old only to take him off so early.
