Longhorns schedule visit with elite 4-star RB KJ Edwards

While the Texas Longhorns are focusing on getting ready for the 2025 campaign, they are also keeping an eye on the future. Over the next few weeks, they will host some of the top prospects in the nation. That list includes running back KJ Edwards, who will be in Austin for an unofficial visit on April 12.

At the moment, Edwards is ranked as the No. 3 running back in the 2026 class by the 247Sports composite rankings. The only players at his position ranked ahead of him are Savion Hiter and Ezavier Crowell, who are five-star recruits. Regardless of who ranks him, Edwards is seen as one of the most talented players in his class.

As Edwards's commitment date draws closer, the Longhorns are on his shortlist. However, they do face competition. That includes Texas A&M and Baylor, making Edwards's visit crucial. Like 247Sports' Gabe Brooks, the Longhorns see the Texas native as a player with enormous potential.

"One of the nation's top backs and among the very best in a loaded TXHSFB 2026 RB class, ..." Brooks wrote. "Nevertheless, firmly one of the top backs nationally, regardless of class, with every-down competency and home run-hitting athleticism. Projects as a potential high-major impact back who could become a serious pro prospect."

If the Longhorns land, Edwards' offense will get a massive boost. They only have a few commitments in the 2026 class after having the top recruiting class in the nation. While there are plenty of other ways to improve the offense, Edwards has the potential to be a star.
