Liverpool teenager Zara Shaw has sustained a second Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.
The Reds confirmed the news via a post on their official club website this evening.
It has been reported that the 17-year-old sustained the injury whilst on international duty with England Under-19s.
Shaw has had some rotten luck with Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries. The player sustained the injury for the first time in a pre-season friendly against Birmingham City in August 2023. Shaw returned to fitness at the end of last season and she has gone on to be a regular in the Liverpool squad this term. The youngster is a real talent for the future but her latest injury setback is likely to put her development on hold for the next nine months.
Commenting on Shaw’s injury setback, Liverpool’s interim head coach Amber Whiteley said “It’s difficult to find the words to express how much disappointment everyone feels for Zara at the moment.
“Zara has a maturity beyond her years and she is a well-loved and respected member of our team. She is one of our own.
“We are fortunate to have a brilliant medical team and a special group of players who will no doubt give Zara the best support possible. We will all be with her every step of the way.”
Shaw will now undergo a specialist consultation before beginning the rehabilitation process with a view to returning to action in the second half of next season.
