Kade Opsal places second twice while Adrian boys swimming takes 11th in Division 3
YPSILANTI — Kade Opsal and the Adrian boys swimming team put a cap on a record-breaking season with a pair of all-state finishes for the junior standout as the team took 11th overall in the state in Division 3.
Opsal tied for second in the 50-yard freestyle and took second in the 100 backstroke by an eyelash. He also was part of the 200-medley relay that took eighth in the state.
Opsal was first in qualifying in both the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. In the backstroke, he swam 51.76 and, in the finals, posted a time of 49.60. His time was bested by .06 against Cranbrook Kingswood's AJ Farner. In the 50 freestyle we swam 21.10 on Friday and in the final posted a time of 21.26, tying with Basilio Ledesma of Holland Christian while Jack Higgins of Detroit County Day won with a time of 21.01.
In the 200-medley relay, Opsal joined Brayden Kilpatrick, Noah Judson and Ian Baker and posted a time of 1:42.42 to take eighth. The same group took 13th in the 200-freestyle relay at 1:32.73.
Kilpatrick also placed 14th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.21.
The Maples overall had a score of 66.5 while Cranbrook Kingswood won with a score of 357.
