Jimmies men's volleyball gets convincing sweep over Park
Mar. 24—GILBERT, Ariz. — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team went on the road and got a convincing sweep over Park University (Arizona) (25-19, 25-18, 25-15) on Monday, March 24, at the Buccaneers' Arizona Athletic Grounds.
The Jimmies had a .429 hitting percentage, their highest in a match since April 29, 2024, when they had a .443 hitting percentage against Kansas Wesleyan. The Jimmies held the Buccaneers to a .152 hitting percentage.
The beginning of the first set was tight with the Jimmies lead sitting at 10-9. However, the Jimmies' Michal Niemiec got a kill to push his team in front 11-9 and that kickstarted a run which saw them take a 19-11 lead. The Buccaneers responded with a run to bring it closer at 23-18 but the Jimmies were able to hang on and get the 25-19 first set win.
The Jimmies (5-16) flew out of the gates in the second set to a 9-3 lead before the Buccaneers were able to claw their way back into it at 16-14. The Jimmies' Niemiec got another kill to end the run and go up 17-14 and that allowed the Jimmies to push the lead out once again and get the 25-18 second set win.
The Jimmies got off to a fast start once again in the third set taking a 12-3 lead but the Buccaneers did their best to fight back into it getting it closer at 15-9 but the Jimmies immediately responded making it 19-10. The Buccaneers (1-13) got it closer at 22-15 but it was too little, too late as the Jimmies finished the match on a 3-0 run with three consecutive Buccaneers errors making the difference to get the third set win.
The Jimmies are back in action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, when they take on Arizona Christian.
