Jimmies men's hockey falls 5-2 to Liberty in ACHA tourney
Mar. 16—MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — The University of Jamestown men's hockey team could not overcome their time in the penalty box and it cost them in a 5-2 loss to Liberty University in the second round of the ACHA Tournament on Sunday, March 16, at the Centene Community Ice Center.
The first period saw both goalies standing on their heads with the Jimmies' Brandon Weare making 13 saves on 14 shots and the Flames' Konrad Kausch saving all nine shots he faced. The only difference in the period was the Flames' Sam Feamster finding the back of the net with 3:35 to go in the period.
The biggest difference in the frame was the amount of time the Jimmies (24-10-0) spent in the penalty box with the squad having 18 penalty minutes in the first period. The Flames (24-11) went 1-for-3 on the power play and only had four penalty minutes.
Midway through the second period, the Jimmies drew a penalty and they cashed in when Zane MacDonald tipped in a shot to tie the game up at one with 10:39 to go in the second period. The Jimmies' penalties came back to bite them once again late in the second though when they went to the box and Feaster put his team back in front with 1:10 to go in the second period.
The Jimmies did not wait very long for the Jimmies to knot the game up at two as Brad Fortin was in the right place at the right time and he buried it to tie the game up at two. The Flames retook the lead with 17:45 to go in the game when they threw one on net that managed to bounce in and give them a 3-2 lead. The Flames added two more in the period to get the three-goal win.
