Jim Harbaugh reveals 'No. 1 guy' for the starting left guard in 2025

The Chargers have been working on retooling the interior part of the offensive line this offseason.

Los Angeles signed Mekhi Becton, who will be the starting right guard. They brought back Bradley Bozeman and added Andre James, who will compete for the starting center job. Zion Johnson has been the starting left guard for the past three seasons but will be given the opportunity to start at center.

"Zion, we're really excited to see him at center and have that versatility, too," Jim Harbaugh said at the Annual League Meeting, per the team's official website. "I just can't wait to get started. That's an exciting piece. I can't wait to have at it and see exactly what transpires there."

Johnson potentially joining the center competition could leave a void at the position. So, how are they going to fill it if that's how it plays out?

Harbaugh mentioned a few names, including Trey Pipkins III, who played right guard during the 2024 season.

"That would probably be the No. 1 guy," Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh said that James, Bozeman and Jamaree Salyer will also be in the mix. The team could draft a rookie to offer more depth for the starting job.

"We haven't started yet, we start in April," Harbaugh said. "But we've got we have so much versatility now with the inside players. Guys that can play guard, guys that can play center."

He added: "There'll be a lot of good players — great players — that we have the license and the ability to contribute, start, and make us better."
