Fans of the Boston Celtics may have noticed that star forward Jaylen Brown has been playing a slower, more deliberate version of his game in recent contests, and some of that can be attributed to the bone bruise the Georgia native has been dealing with of late. But it is also a product of Brown looking to the style of play favored by another Boston wing legend, Hall of Fame Celtics champion forward Paul Pierce.
Speaking to the media postgame after a recent win over the Phoenix Suns, the Cal alum shared that he has been studying The Truth to augment his usual, explosively athletic style of play."It’s funny because he was at the game today. Before the game, I was watching some Paul Pierce footage," shared Brown via Boston Dot Com's Khari A. Thompson.
"Getting to your spots, you know, playing at a certain pace. Today I felt like I didn’t have my normal burst, but I was still able to be effective, so I think that’s good."
"But, as we continue to move forward, I’m hoping to feel better and better," suggested the Celtics star. "But, there’s no guarantee that rest or anything like that will make this thing better, so I’m figuring it out and going through it and getting ready for the playoffs."
If there is a style of play that lends itself to taking it a bit easier on the knees for Brown, he could do far worse that to crib from Pierce, whose 'old man game' approach to the sport sustained him into a very long career that didn't see him win his first title until he was older than his contemporary counterpart.
