Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins extensions get massive money projections
The rumor mill says the Cincinnati Bengals are close to finalizing extensions with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
That possible outcome isn't all that shocking after months of public campaigning from Joe Burrow and the fact the team doesn't really have any other big upcoming contracts after years of so-so drafting.
What might shock, though, are the sheer numbers being tossed around in reporting.
Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, for example, reports that Chase will be at roughly $40 million per year and Higgins at $28 million per year. The Athletic's Dianna Russini, though, reported that the duo could receive "over $70 million per year combined."
Chase was always going to go up over $40 million per year after the team missed a chance to get him around the $35 million per-year mark last summer. Higgins could've generated around $30 million in free agency, while the tag gave him a lump sum of $26 million, so around $28 million would be an interesting compromise.
As always with the Bengals, though, it will be more interesting to see how the team was willing to leave its comfort zone on guarantees and overall contract structure for top players to actually get these deals done -- if and when they happen.
