Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins nearing Bengals extensions
The Cincinnati Bengals are nearing extensions with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero dropped the major news on Friday: "The Bengals have made significant progress on contract extensions with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and both deals could be finalized in the coming days, sources tell me and @RapSheet. It now appears Joe Burrow will get his wish: Both star WRs in Cincy for years to come."
The absolute quiet around the Bengals during the free-agency frenzy and even the lack of comments or social media posts from both star wideouts suggested as much.
Those Bengals would like to get the $26 million franchise tag for Higgins off the books and make Chase the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. The price on Chase dramatically jumped, though, after Myles Garrett's extension in Cleveland. Still, the Bengals had been adamant about getting that one done.
Higgins was more of a question mark. While the Bengals seemingly never entertained the idea of a trade, that second franchise tag signaled that things weren't as close as they needed to be and it was a tool to prevent him from hitting free agency while extending the deadline to get an extension done until mid-July.
