Manchester City see host of clubs line up for out-of-favour forward amid Pep Guardiola frustrations
Jack Grealish is set to attract widespread interest at the end of the season and is looking to leave Manchester City after four years at the Etihad Stadium, as per reports.
The 29-year-old is finding game time hard to come by after a series of injuries in the last 18 months have derailed the Englishman’s trajectory since his heroics in Manchester City’s 2022-23 treble season.
Grealish admitted to having struggled with off-pitch issues last season and as he approaches the end of his fourth season in blue, he is yet to kick on from his best campaign in Manchester as uncertainty looms over the forward’s future at City.
City paid a club-record £100 million fee to sign Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021 – a figure that many would argue hasn’t been justified purely down to the fact that the winger has performed consistently in just one of his four years with the reigning Premier League champions.
Pep Guardiola has admitted that he will judge Grealish solely on his performances in training and on matchday – after the Manchester City man was spotted leaving a pub in Newcastle a few weeks ago.
Grealish has shown glimpses of his 2022-23 self in the last two seasons – but recurring injuries and Guardiola preferring the likes of Jeremy Doku, Savinho and even now-Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez ahead of the Birmingham-born star – have made it difficult for all parties to justify the outlay made on Grealish.
City are expected to conduct a major reshuffle of their ranks in the summer and there have been indications that as things stand, it is expected that Grealish will leave the club at the end of the season.
As per Football Insider, Grealish is unhappy with his role at the Etihad Stadium and wants out after another stop-start season under Guardiola.
The England international is expected to see numerous clubs express interest in his services, with City expected to part ways with Grealish for a cut-price sum compared to what they paid for him in 2021.
City have failed to win each of their last two Premier League games – against Nottingham Forest and Brighton and Hove Albion – and Grealish has been left on the bench for the entirety of 180 minutes, which seems to have summed up where he currently stands in Guardiola’s pecking order with nine league games remaining this term.
