Jaguars pass on Mason Graham, trade down in latest mock draft

In the latest NFL mock draft from USA Today, the Jacksonville Jaguars passed on Mason Graham at fifth overall and instead opted to trade down.

Nate Davis put together his most recent mock draft, and rather than going with the popular pick for the Jaguars with Graham, he instead chose to have Jacksonville load up on even more draft capital.

The Jaguars would make this trade with the Chicago Bears, dropping them down to pick No. 10 overall.

Davis didn't detail what the Jaguars would get in return for moving down to the 10th pick, but if we use the Jimmy Johnson draft pick value chart as our guide, the Jaguars could get pick No. 41 in the second round from the Bears while potentially having to send back a fourth or fifth round pick as well to equal things out.

With 10 selections already in this year's draft, the Jaguars certainly don't have to trade back, but it is a move that does seem to be in play, depending on how the board falls. After all, GM James Gladstone has said he wants to build the roster through the draft, and what better way to do that then by gaining an extra second round pick?

So with that 10th pick, who did Davis have the Jaguars selecting?

Well, the Jaguars ended up taking Michigan cornerback Will Johnson. In the very early stages of the pre-draft process, Johnson was a favorite pick mocked to the Jaguars. However, he has since more often been taken in the 10-20 range.

Johnson is listed at 6-2 - 202 pounds. Due to a turf toe injury, he appeared in only six games in 2024. However, over his three seasons at Michigan, Johnson allowed a completion rate of just 53% at 13.4 yards per catch with good ball production, coming away with nine interceptions and seven pass breakups, according to PFF.

The addition of Jourdan Lewis in free agency helped provide stability at cornerback, but it's still a position of need. It remains to be seen how well Jarrian Jones will adjust to playing on the boundary at the NFL level, not to mention that bolstering the depth is required here as well.
