Does NFL draft prospect become a more likely Jaguars pick after pro day performance?
Perhaps of interest to the Jacksonville Jaguars, top wide receiver prospect Tetairoa McMillan from Arizona ran the 40-yard dash at his pro day and impressed the scouts in attendance.
According to Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network, hand times for McMillan from those in attendance clocked the wide receiver anywhere from 4.46 to 4.53 seconds. Given his size at 6-4 - 219 pounds, any 40 time in the aforementioned range is a strong showing for him.
On the field, McMillan has been a massive part of the Wildcat offense for the last two seasons, totaling a whopping 260 targets during that span. He's gone on to haul in 67% of those passes and an impressive 15.6 yards per catch with 18 touchdowns, according to PFF.
The combination of him plus Brian Thomas Jr. would form a difficult duo for defenses to contend with. Having two receivers who are capable of attacking all levels of the field and can each line up out wide or in the slot, it gives Liam Coen a variety of ways that he can attack opposing defenses.
McMillan was one of the prospects that the Jaguars did meet with at the NFL combine:
"I met with them," said McMillan of the Jaguars, "and you always need a good receiver on the other side to be good. I would love to play with Brian Thomas. I think he's really good, a Pro Bowler, and I think we'd be a good complement to each other."
McMillan may be the top wideout in this year's class, but the group is not as deep as we've grown accustomed to seeing. So, while there's a need at receiver for the Jaguars, and McMillan makes sense, would James Gladstone select him at pick No. 5? Or would the Jaguars try to trade down and then take him? Also not to be forgotten about is that defensive tackle remains a big need as well.
