Jaguars land potential No. 1 pick in NFL mock draft after early run on QBs
A run on quarterbacks in a recent 2025 NFL mock draft from Pro Football Focus pushed a potential No. 1 overall pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars at pick at No. 5.
PFF's John Kosko put together his post-free agency mock draft, and the first three picks were all quarterbacks. The benefit of this for the Jaguars is that the top non-quarterbacks in the draft are then pushed down the draft board.
Could you imagine a scenario where the Jaguars get to choose from selecting Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter? Well, that's what happened in Kosko's mock, and the Jaguars went with Hunter.
"I would like to see Hunter as a full-time wide receiver in the NFL," Kosko wrote. "The generational talent falls to the Jaguars here as three quarterback-needy teams drive the blue-chip prospects down the board. Regardless of which position Hunter plays, his talent would elevate the Jaguars."
Hunter has said that he wants to play both cornerback and wide receiver in the NFL--both of which are positions where the Jaguars could use some additional help.
The addition of Jourdan Lewis in the slot and Jarrian Jones moving to the boundary provides stability at cornerback, but competition should be added to the boundary still.
At receiver, meanwhile, while there are players on the roster who could step into that No. 2 role behind Brian Thomas Jr., there are also still unknowns around who that might be, or if it would happen. So again, more competition is needed.
In coverage last season, Hunter allowed a completion rate of only 56% on 41 targets and held pass-catchers to under 10.0 yards per catch. He also came away with four interceptions and seven pass breakups.
As a receiver, Hunter caught an impressive 79% of his 121 targets, averaging 13.1 yards per catch with 15 touchdowns. As the numbers illustrate on both sides of the ball, Hunter's ball skills are highly impressive.
How the Jaguars would utilize Hunter is not known at this time, but they did meet with him at the NFL combine.
