Il Giorno: Renderings show Milan and Inter’s plan for full San Siro development
More information is continuing to emerge regarding AC Milan and Inter’s plan for a new stadium to be constructed in the San Siro area.
It has been a busy few days on the new stadium front, with the most important bit of news being that the two Milanese clubs have submitted an offer to buy the current stadium and the surrounding area, to build a new modern home. Our Substack bonus article will help you catch up on all the key news.
As Calciomercato.com write, the plan for the new stadium itself is for it to feature two tiers only, reminiscent of San Siro in the 1950s. The architecture of the bowl also enhances the identity of the two Curvas and minimises the presence of barriers in the space reserved for spectators.
Only part of the façade and part of the second tier of the orange sector will be saved from the the current San Siro, which will however be completely revalued and renovated. It will house a hotel, offices and shops, plus spaces for citizens and specific functions aimed at the community.
The capacity will be approximately 71,500 spectators. The Docfap also reports the specific costs of the project ‘equal to €1.23bn euros excluding the costs of reclamation, deconstruction of the stadium, the costs of purchasing the areas, soft costs, urbanisation charges and the contribution to the cost of construction, compensation for carbon neutrality, unforeseen events, inflation and VAT’.
In particular, the construction of the new stadium will cost €707.9m, of which €583.7m is for the stadium and €124.2m for the podium on which the facility will be built. The external areas and infrastructure will cost €102.8m, of which €68.1m is for the reconstruction of the Patrocolo Tunnel alone.
The plan also explains how the stadium will be experienced on days when there are no games: “The stadium will be operational 365 days a year, with selected areas and activities, such as stadium tours and museum spaces, catering, conferences and events open to visitors.
“The design of the structure has been studied to minimise the acoustic impact, optimise the flow of spectators during events and best integrate the adjacent green areas, commercial development and connectivity, to the benefit of the local community.”
