How 'fraud' comments have become Ole Miss basketball's March Madness rally cry to Sweet 16
MILWAUKEE — The fraud comments didn't come up once during Ole Miss basketball coach Chris Beard's postgame press conference Sunday.
He saved it for the locker room
After the No. 6 seed Rebels' 91-78 win over No. 3 seed Iowa State (25-10) in the second round of the NCAA tournament, Beard entered the locker room in the belly of Fiserv Forum and asked his players one question: Where is Tim Doyle?
Doyle is a CBS television pundit who dubbed Ole Miss "frauds" on a Selection Sunday show shortly after the bracket released. Ole Miss (24-11) proved him wrong by beating No. 11 North Carolina 71-64 in the first round and crushing Iowa State to reach Ole Miss' second-ever Sweet 16.
It might not come up in the official postgame press conference, but Doyle's words have become a rally cry in the Ole Miss locker room.
"We've been disrespected the whole year," senior guard Matthew Murrell said. "First round, a lot of guys had the upset. North Carolina. We've felt like we've been disrespected all through the year. We take the disrespect, and we turn it into fuel."

Jaemyn Brakefield, a senior who extended his college career by scoring 19 points on 6-for-8 shooting, said it's all good. There's no real animosity, but he does hope Doyle covers the Rebels' Sweet 16 game on Friday in Atlanta. Ole Miss will face No. 2 seed Michigan State (29-6).

Jaylen Murray sat by Brakefield in the locker room. He was talking to his mom on the phone but paused the conversation to reiterate that his team doesn't harbor any ill will toward Doyle. Proving Doyle wrong, though, is enjoyable.
"We've seen it," Murray said. "It's good though. We've seen what he's trying to stay. I don't know what it is. We're not worries about it. We're just staying positive. staying humble. Doing what we've got to do."
