Game time set for Ole Miss basketball vs Michigan State in 2025 March Madness Sweet 16

Ole Miss basketball will be playing next in the first game on Friday.

The No. 5 seed Rebels (24-11) advanced to the NCAA tournament Sweet 16 to meet No. 2 Michigan State (29-6) on Friday (6:09 p.m. CT, CBS) at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Ole Miss is in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2001 after it stormed by No. 3 Iowa State 91-79 on Sunday in Milwaukee.

Rebels coach Chris Beard last played against Spartans coach Tom Izzo in 2019 when Texas Tech beat MSU in the Final Four.

How Ole Miss basketball advanced in the NCAA tournament

The Rebels have gotten off to fast starts in both of their March Madness games.

In the first round, Ole Miss led No. 11 North Carolina by as many as 19 points in the first half and 22 in the second half. And against Iowa State, Ole Miss was ahead for the final 30:13 with the lead reaching all the way to 26 points.

However, the Rebels haven't closed those games in an efficient manner. North Carolina trimmed the lead down to two points with 1:09 to play before Ole Miss won 71-64. Iowa State made it an 85-75 game with 1:20 to play.

Guard Sean Pedulla has been fantastic, scoring 20 points in both games. Jaemyn Brakefield also had a big game against the Cyclones with 19 points and so did Malik Dia with 18 points.

How Michigan State advanced in the NCAA tournament to face Ole Miss

The Spartans separated from No. 10 New Mexico late in the second half of Sunday's second-round game to win 71-63. Guard Jaden Akins scored 16 points and Tre Holloman added 14 points off the bench.

Michigan State also had a slow start in its first-round game versus No. 15 Bryant, leading by just five points at halftime. However, Michigan State outscored Bryant 54-34 in the second half to win 87-62 behind 18 points from forward Coen Carr.

Akins is Michigan State's leading scorer with 12.7 points per game, followed by freshman guard Jase Richardson at 11.9 points per game.
