How did TE Tyler Warren land with Colts in latest NFL mock draft?
Mike Band of Next Gen Stats put together his first 2025 NFL mock draft for NFL.com, and the Indianapolis Colts came away with Penn State tight end Tyler Warren at pick No. 14. But what needed to happen for Warren to be available at that point?
Warren has been an extremely popular pick for the Colts in mock drafts, particularly during the early going of the pre-draft process, and it's easy to see why.
The Colts need a much greater passing game presence at the tight end position, and Warren is coming off a 1,200-yard season in 2024. In addition to that, he brings versatility and a well-rounded skill set as a blocker to an NFL offense as well, which can help add some unpredictability to that unit with him able to wear a variety of hats.
However, as we get deeper into the draft process, more and more mocks have Warren being taken in the top 10. It's not only the Colts who would benefit from his do-it-all skill set, but just about every offense would.
So what happened in Band's mock draft that benefitted the Colts that had Warren still on the board at pick No. 14?
Well, among the players taken ahead of Warren were three quarterbacks and three offensive tackles. Defensive tackle Kenneth Grant made his way into the top 14, as did safety Malaki Starks and edge rusher Mykel Williams.
In order for Warren to fall to the Colts, it's going to take several teams prioritizing team needs over following their big board and taking the best available prospect. On Daniel Jeremiah's latest big board, Warren is the fifth-best prospect in this year's draft.
