Texas A&M's 2025 running back room is one of the roster's predominant strengths and is already showing its impact during the spring practice period. This offseason, the return of Le'Veon Moss from his season-ending injury was the first headline, while Rueben Owens's getting back to full strength after missing all but two games last season is equally important.
Owen's prolific high school career was one of the many reasons he earned his five-star status in the 2023 recruiting class. After rushing for 385 yards and three touchdowns while making the 2023 SEC All-Freshman Team, Owens is determined to get back to his elite form, and offensive coordinator Collin Klein is in his corner.
During Wednesday's press conference, Klein and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman spoke to the local media, discussing both sides of the ball from various perspectives. Regarding Owens, Klein is confident that the redshirt sophomore will be 100% healthy by the fall but is still working his way back, showing flashes on the practice field.
"He's a lot closer. There are flashes of what I know he can be and what he knows he can be. He's still battling a little bit. I'm not worried about him at all. I expect him to be a big difference-maker."
Owens is the most talented back on the roster despite Le'Veon Moss's breakout season. He is also the best-receiving back. Moss was woefully missed in last season's opening-season loss to Notre Dame, as the offense had to rely on Moss to lead the team in his absence.
Consistent health is Owens' only obstacle, and I can promise you that head coach Mike Elko will keep him in bubble wrap during the summer to prevent any further strain.
