Milwaukee Brewers senior vice president and general manager Matt Arnold was named executive of the year by his peers after the 2024 season. Here are the top five player-acquisition moves by Arnold in his two-plus years in charge.
1. Signed then 19-year-old outfielder Jackson Chourio to an eight-year, $82 million contract extension on Dec. 3, 2023, a record at the time for a player who’d never played a game in the major leagues. The Brewers also hold $25 million team options for 2032 and 2033.
2. Acquired catcher William Contreras and right-hander Joel Payamps in a three-team trade with Atlanta and Oakland in exchange for Esteury Ruiz, Dec. 12, 2022.
3.Signed right-hander Colin Rea to a one-year contract with a team option for 2025 on Nov. 2, 2023.
4. Signed right-hander Tobias Myers to a minor-league contract on Nov. 10, 2022.
5. Acquired right-hander Trevor Megill from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for minor-league right-hander Taylor Floyd on April 30, 2023.
