Barcelona president Joan Laporta could not contain his joy after watching his team put in a commanding performance against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
The 4-0 victory at home not only gave the Catalan club a strong advantage ahead of the second leg but also filled fans with renewed hope and excitement about the future of the team under Hansi Flick.
Laporta admitted that the thrilling night had left a lasting impression on him, making it difficult for him to unwind after such a powerful display.
“I’m happy. It was hard to sleep a little. I wanted it to last longer… that feeling,” he said.
The president, like many Barcelona supporters, seemed deeply moved by the magic of the performance and the atmosphere created at the temporary home, Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
He spoke fondly of the venue, recognising how the team had embraced it during their stay away from Camp Nou. Despite that, he made it clear that everyone at the club is eagerly anticipating the return to their historic stadium.
“Yesterday we lived a magical night, I didn’t want it to end, it was hard to sleep because I have been recalling the moments of glory that we lived yesterday.”
Optimism surrounds return to Camp Nou
While still enjoying the high of the European win, Laporta also provided a positive update regarding the progress of renovations at Spotify Camp Nou.
“We have made it [Olimpic stadium] ours, but we are already looking forward to returning”
He mentioned that the construction work is going well and continuing at a steady pace.
The aim is to complete the renovations in a way that will transform the stadium into the best football ground in the world, a true symbol of pride for all Barcelona fans.
“I have visited the works and they continue at a good pace. It will be, from our point of view, the best stadium in the world and the pride of all the Cules,” he said.
