Georgia forward RJ Godfrey transfers back to his first school

Georgia Bulldogs basketball forward RJ Godfrey announced he's transferring back to the Clemson Tigers, according to Pete Nakos of On3.

Godfrey was originally signed by Clemson from the class of 2022. He played with the Tigers for two years, showing the abilities of a stretch big. In his second year at Clemson, he shot 42.9% from behind the arc. He also averaged 6.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.6 minutes per game for Clemson in 2023, helping lead the Tigers to the Elite Eight.

When Godfrey transferred to UGA for his junior season, many people were excited. He is the son of former Georgia linebacker Randall Godfrey and has great defensive instincts and size.

Godfrey played a key role in Georgia's first March Madness berth since 2015. Godfrey averaged 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game (both career highs). He played an average of 19.5 minutes per game (career high).

Godfrey is one of three players who entered the transfer portal from Georgia. Star point guard Silas Demary Jr. already committed to UConn and guard De’Shayne Montgomery still has yet to find a home. Georgia will have to fill the holes in both the frontcourt and backcourt, but Georgia head coach Mike White has had success from the transfer portal before.
