RIESEL — The Frost boys and girls had a huge day in the Area Track Meet Thursday. They brought eight athletes to the meet in Riesel and qualified six for the Regional Meet in Palestine next Friday and Saturday while setting four school records and nine personal records in the meet.
The top four in each event advanced to the Regional Meet.
Brenda Manrriquez, who went to the state in cross country and was the Golden Circle Girls Basketball Player of the Year this winter had an incredible day. Manrriquez advanced to the Regional Meet in all five of her events, posted PRs in all five and set four school records. She finished third in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 36-feet, 6.5 inches, third in the long jump with a PR of 17.5-feet and set the school record in the 200-meter dash in 26.5.
Manrriquez also ran on Frost's 4x100 Relay team along with Averyn Surovik, Payton Hailey and Heidee Hearn that finished second and set a school record (51.24) and ran on the Lady Polar Bear 4x200 relay team along with the same three girls that won the event in a school record time of 147.14.
She wasn't alone — and won't be alone in Palestine, where Frost is sending David Perez, who finished first in the boys 1600 with a PR of 4:55 and second in the 3200 in 10:56 to qualify for the Regionals and took sixth in the 800.
Mario Porter won the discus title with a PR of 153 feet and finished third in the shot put (46-feet) to qualify for the Regionals.
