Former Iowa baseball pitcher called up by Los Angeles Dodgers for MLB's Tokyo Series.
As the Los Angeles Dodgers open their World Series defense against the Chicago Cubs from the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan, to start the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season, former Iowa baseball pitcher Jack Dreyer has earned himself a spot on the Dodgers' 26-man roster for the international series.
Dreyer signed with the Dodgers after going undrafted following three seasons (2017-2020) with Iowa. While with the Hawkeyes, he accumulated an 8-3 record with an earned run average (ERA) of 3.41 to go along with 76 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings of work across 20 games played.
In the Dodgers' minor league system, Dreyer has transitioned to the bullpen with a 10-2 record, 2.18 ERA, 164 strikeouts, and 1.11 WHIP while pitching 124 innings across 100 games.

“It’s a great testament to Jack’s confidence in himself and perseverance," said head coach Rick Heller. "We’re extremely proud of Jack and happy for his Mom and his Dad, Courtney and Steve. They now have two Big Leaguers in the family!”
Dreyer is the fifth player in Heller’s Iowa tenure to get the call to the major league level, joining Nick Allgeyer, Mason McCoy, Tyler Cropley, and Adam Mazur. He is the 10th all-time player to reach the MLB who played under Heller, joining Sean Manaea, Dakota Bacus, Colin Rea, Jake Petricka and Ryan Strausborger — all of whom played for Heller at Indiana State.
The Dodgers (1-0, 0-0 NL West) opened the MLB's Tokyo Series on Tuesday morning with a 4-1 victory over the Cubs (0-1, 0-0 NL Central), in which Dreyer did not see any action.
Both teams meet again at the Tokyo Dome on Wednesday morning, with the first pitch scheduled for 5:10 a.m. CT on FS1.
