Florida State looking to make ground with four-star Jayden Petit
Florida State was admittedly late to the party compared to other in-state schools in the recruitment of four-star tight end Jayden Petit.
Petit camped at Florida State during his freshman year but was only offered in January. Coach Mike Norvell visited him the next day.
But Petit has already locked in official visits with both in-state rivals, Florida and Miami, and also has visits set up with Wisconsin and North Carolina. Can the Seminoles get themselves onto Petit's official visit schedule after Saturday?
"I'm planning to," Petit said on an official visit. "I'm not sure how its going to work out with the dates and everything but I would like to. They've moved higher up. I've been impressed with what I've seen at practice and how they move the ball."
Petit was offered by offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. while they were at UCF. Saturday was the first time that Petit got to watch Harris in action.
"(I like) How he is able to explain things to his players and help them process things faster. Giving that ability for everybody to learn things," Petit said.
Learning was a recurring word used when describing his visit. Not only did Petit learn about Florida State academically, but he also learned about what he could expect if he attended FSU from former players.
"Just seeing how they get the ball to their receivers, really. The education aspect, which I learned today. Learning from the coaches and the receiving coaches that I could possibly be with. Seeing how successful they were as a team and how everybody under the staff — even the big guys like Jared Verse — were doing well academically. They showed me how I could excel academically as well," Petit said.
"They were just talking about how Florida State was hard and that it's a hard road. If you're a dog, it's the road to be on," Petit later added.
The Seminoles will have to make up ground with Petit, but the legacy weekend visit was a good start. An official visit would do wonders for their chances.
