Florida State pushing for official visit from FSU legacy Brody Jennings
Florida State has been pushing to get Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin safety Brody Jennings on campus and they were finally able to do so as Jennings took in Florida State's first practice of spring camp on Wednesday.
"Definitely how the DBs were making plays and how they took the coaching from Coach (Mike) Norvell," Jennings said on what stood out to him about the practice. "He coaches really hard as you can see. They let it motivate them. He yelled at one DB and then the next play he caught an interception so they were taking the coaching very well."
The 6-foot-1 and 175-pound safety closely followed defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain during the practice. He also noticed a wide variety of schemes and coverage installs, a departure from a defense that played a majority of press-man last season.
"The energy was very high," Jennings said. "I was following Coach Surtain around the whole time and the players were talking to us the whole time. They were like 'hop in the drills' and I said, 'Give me some cleats and I'll do it!' "
The Florida State legacy has been coming on campus since he was in middle school, but now the Seminoles are pushing to get the all-important official visit this summer.
"Most likely. I haven't set one up yet (though)," Jennings said on a potential official visit.
Being committed to Michigan since last July, Jennings already has a calendar loaded with official visits as teams pursue a flip. He has official visits scheduled to Alabama (May 30), Florida (June 6), Georgia (June 13) and of course Michigan on June 20.
Florida State would likely have to schedule a midweek visit — the details of which Jennings was likely to discuss with the coaching staff later that day. But the Seminoles are in the top group of programs trying to steer him off his pledge to the Wolverines.
"They're DBU. Other schools say they are DBU too but Florida State — I could name DBs off the top of my head. Other schools, I'd have to think about it."
"They are definitely high on my board," he added. "My dad went here. It's a good school to come to. I've seen literally everything (over the years) at Florida State."
The son of former FSU linebacker Bradley Jennings, Brody is a four-star prospect and is considered to be the No. 30 safety prospect in the country currently. Florida State sees Jennings at boundary corner.
"That I belong at Florida State," Jennings said on the message from the staff. My brothers didn't come here but they're going to get one Jennings."
