Amari Thomas enjoys first visit since commitment, updates recruitment
Four-star running back commit Amari Thomas (formerly Amari Clemons) was back on Florida State's campus for the first time since his commitment at the end of January.
Since committing to the Seminoles after back-to-back junior day visits, Thomas has held true to that commitment, not taking any other visits. In fact, he's moved closer to Tallahassee, transferring to Blountstown High School.
On Tuesday, he got to get a look at the new offense under Gus Malzahn and the beginnings of what will hopefully be a potent running attack.
"I just wanted to learn the pace of the game," Thomas said after watching the practice. "It's a different type of transition when you go from high school to college. There are different levels to it. You've got to learn. Different kind of speeds, patience — you've got to want to do it — and you have to have a lot of effort doing it."
The running backs of course will have a heavier load in Malzahn's offense and the relationship between Thomas and Malzahn is steadily growing.
"Since Gus is run heavy, you've gotta know how to run the ball. Our relationship gets better every time we come and I talk to him privately so we are working our relationship," Thomas said.
"He wants to win. Not just win — but win a national championship at that. Everybody loves a coach that wants to win, especially in a competitive spirit," he later added.
Thomas noted sophomore running back Kam Davis among the players that stood out at practice on Tuesday.
While Thomas remains locked in with the Seminoles he still plans to take official visits to other programs — mostly based off of the relationships that he has with other coaches.
Thomas will officially visit West Virginia, South Carolina, Kentucky and, of course, Florida State on June 20.
Auburn, who was previously viewed as the biggest competitor in Thomas' recruitment prior to his commitment, has surprisingly been left off the schedule.
While it wasn't specified when he'll next be back, it shouldn't be too long now that his high school is 30 minutes away.
