Feld sisters power Glenwood, plus other week's top performers around Springfield

This is a daily list of top performers from Springfield-area high school sports teams for March 17-22, compiled from information provided to The State Journal-Register by coaches, athletic directors and team statisticians.

Game of the Day 

Chatham Glenwood 6, Springfield High (co-op) 1 

Twin sisters Sydney and Sophia Feld each cranked out a solo home run to lift Chatham Glenwood to a Central State Eight Conference opening win at Lawless Park. 

The Titans (6-0, 1-0 CS8) scored three runs in the second inning beginning with Sydney’s home run to center field. Sophia later homered to right field in the fifth for a 5-1 lead.  

Sydney finished with two hits and two RBIs. Ava Bobb also homered in the third inning, while Hope Gilmore had two hits, including a double. 

Junior pitcher Irie Lohrenz recorded the win with 11 strikeouts in a complete game. She gave up one run on six hits and three walks.  

Springfield High’s Mia Volpert took the loss despite 17 strikeouts. She also delivered a solo home run in the third. 

Stars of the Day

Aubrey Crispen, Athens: The center fielder went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs in Athens’ 11-8 win at Delavan. Kenzie Szoke had three hits with a double and scored a run. 

Lexi Patton/Audrey Cooper, Buffalo Tri-City: The Tornadoes’ pair each had three hits as Tri-City beat Nokomis 10-4. Tri-City pitcher Lily Woodworth got the win. She allowed four runs on five hits, five walks and struck out four.  

Briley Kirby/Lainey Lessman, Hillsboro: Kirby hit the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Hiltoppers a 5-4 walk-off win against Taylorville. Kirby was 4-for-4. Lainey Lessman pitched four innings of scoreless relief to get the win. She struck out six, allowed three hits and no walks.  

Hallie Gibson, Carlinville: The Cavaliers’ pitcher struck out 10 against three runs, two hits and one walk in five innings as Carlinville beat Pawnee 14-3 in five innings.  

Ava Rodriguez, Pawnee: The slugger belted a home run in Pawnee’s 14-3, five-inning loss to Carlinville.  

Felicity Keller, Sacred Heart-Griffin: She went 3-for-3 with a double and drove in a run as the Cyclones beat Decatur Eisenhower 15-0 in four innings. Ella Selinger struck out nine in four scoreless innings for the win.  

Peyton Purves/Kendall Edmonson/Mylie Deatherage, Rochester: Purves and Edmonson walloped two home runs apiece and Deatherage threw a four-inning perfect game as the Rockets defeated Jacksonville 21-0. Purves and Edmonson both finished 3-for-3 with six RBIs each. Deatherage struck out nine and faced the minimum of 12 batters.
