Emily Chmiel becomes first All-American in East Stroudsburg women's basketball history

Emily Chmiel had one of the best seasons ever in the history of East Stroudsburg University women's basketball. Now, she has claim to a title no one else in program history can claim: All-America Team.

The Warriors' 6-foot-2 center was named to the All-American Second Team by The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Chmiel is the first player to be named to a team.

Stacy Perryman (1995), Tonia Lloyd (1990) and Gaye Chapman (1994) received All-America honorable mention honors in previous years. Chmiel also received honorable mention recognition from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Committee prior to the D2CCA announcement, which made her the first to receive the honor since Perryman 30 years ago.

In 28 starts for East Stroudsburg, Chmiel averaged 22.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game on 52% shooting from the field and 77% from the free-throw line.

She was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's (PSAC) leading scorer and rebounder, and her 24 double-doubles led all Division II women's basketball players. Chmiel received PSAC East First Team honors, the only player from ESU to be selected this season.

During the season, first-year head coach Liz Flooks talked about the potential within Chmiel, saying, "We joked with her that she could be a walking double-double, and she is, which is amazing to see. It goes back to her work ethic, which is few and far between to other players.  And it shows that she just has the confidence in herself. Even if she misses the first couple of shots, she's just like, 'It doesn't matter, I'm gonna make the next 15.'"

Few players have made such an impact in two years, but Emily Chmiel's play for the Warriors will be remembered for years to come.
