David Ornstein provides crucial update on Rasmus Hojlund’s future
David Ornstein has shed some light on where Rasmus Hojlund might play his football come next season.
While the Dane ended his 99-day goal drought in Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City, he has struggled greatly to acclimatize to life at Old Trafford since his move at the start of last season.
In fact, just this morning, The Peoples Person noted that there is a belief arising that Hojlund could return to Italy this summer despite having three years left on his contract.
Shockingly, this may not be the case, with David Ornstein claiming otherwise.
When asked on the Back Pages podcast about Hojlund’s chances of leaving Man United, Ornstein remarked: “Certainly an interesting proposition, I’m not sure how realistic it is. Manchester United spent 70-plus million pounds on Rasmus Hojlund.”
“He’s young, he’s just actually found the back of the net after a long drought against Leicester, and my presumption is they’ll be wanting to build with him rather than bringing in a much older striker in what would be a complicated deal,” Ornstein explained on Back Pages via CaughtOffside.
He also touched on United’s links to Victor Osimhen, on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.
“I do expect Victor Osimhen to be on the move, given that Napoli let him go to Galatasaray, and the future is really uncertain for him there. “And Manchester United have been linked, but I’m not sure how realistic it is that Manchester United would let go of Rasmus Hojlund,” Ornstein admitted.
“He is one who would raise some funds, but he would not produce a profit on the book value that he represents. So I think it’s more likely that United will raise funds from elsewhere, as attractive a deal as that might sound for transfer lovers,” the journalist concluded.
Although manager Ruben Amorim may see potential in Hojlund, hence his persistence in including him in United’s starting lineup, the struggling striker’s record at Old Trafford does not make for pleasant viewing.
Furthermore, should Hojlund remain at the club, it might become difficult to find another player to offload who could raise the level of funds required to sign Osimhen this summer.
Ultimately, it will be up to Amorim to determine whether his insistence on playing the underperforming striker will pay off in the long run. Still, he will need to remember that the United fanbase may not share his patience.
