Manchester United considering summer move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface
Rasmus Hojlund finally ended his 99-day goalscoring drought in the Premier League on Sunday against Leicester City but Ruben Amorim knows he needs way more next season.
The Dane does not look like the right man to lead the team’s attack and needs support alongside him moving forwards with Joshua Zirkzee more of an attacking midfielder than a ruthless finisher.
The Red Devils have been linked with a whole host of names with Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen among the most high-profile ones.
Fichajes have now brought back Victor Boniface’s name into the mix claiming that Nigerian remains one of the targets for Amorim’s side.
Boniface remains a target
“Manchester United are clear that they need to strengthen their attack for the 2025/26 season and have drawn up a list of ten potential signings for the center-forward position.
“Victor Boniface has been key at Bayer Leverkusen, and his possible summer departure is one of the possibilities being considered by the Old Trafford board.”
He was mentioned as a January option but ultimately his poor injury record and Bayer Leverkusen’s desire to keep hold of him meant the 24-year-old ended up staying put in Germany.
In Leverkusen’s record-breaking campaign last time out, the former Bodo/Glimt man netted 21 times while registering 10 assists.
This term, he has started 14 games and managed 10 goals and a couple of assists and has even earned comparisons with former Premier League legend Didier Drogba.
He was on fire last season
The only issue with the Nigeria international is the fact that he has missed 30 games due to injury in the last two seasons combined and United need someone with a better injury record.
Boniface was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in the winter but he stayed and currently has three years left on his deal with the Bundesliga side.
Leverkusen want to extend his deal by a year but should the Red Devils seriously pursue his signing, Xabi Alonso’s side would find it hard to hold on to their lethal marksman.
He has a market value of €45 million, which is less than what the 20-time English league champions would have to pay for Osimhen and Gyokeres, so it makes more financial sense. Who INEOS ultimately plump for will be intriguing to see.
