Apr. 2—MITCHELL — After a perfect record in a recent match play event, Dakota Wesleyan University junior Ashton Austreim was named Great Plains Athletic Conference women's golfer of the week for March 24-30.
Austreim, who hails from Brookings, helped power the Tigers to the Briar Cliff Match Play tournament title last week with a 3-0 record. The event was played March 27-28 at Green Valley Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa.
Austreim won her final match 3-and-1 over the College of St. Mary's Emily Fauble in the final round. She also won 2-and-1 in the second round and 1-up in the opening round to win her three matches.
As a team, DWU won 4.5 to 0.5 against Concordia (Neb.) in the first match, 4-1 over Briar Cliff in the second round and 3.5 to 1.5 in the final against the College of St. Mary.
For the season, Austreim has a scoring average of 85.72 in 18 rounds played and she won the Mount Marty Tatanka Invite in September at Tatanka Golf Club in Niobrara, Nebraska with back-to-back season-best rounds of 80. She's the second DWU golfer this school year to win GPAC player of the week, joining freshman Allison Meyerink, who won twice during the fall.
DWU will host its home invitational at 9 a.m. Monday, April 7 and Tuesday, April 8 at Lakeview Golf Course, playing 54 holes over the two days of competition. Nine teams from Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota are scheduled to play.
