Report: Texans looking for new team headquarters away from NRG Stadium

More change could be coming for the Houston Texans soon.

According to The Houston Chronicle's Jonathan M. Alexander, the Texans are seeking a space to build a new team headquarters that would likely house practice fields, weight rooms, meeting spaces and offices. Owners Cal McNair and Hannah McNair spoke to Alexander, stating that at the moment they don't know where they would build a new headquarters or when the move would happen, but conversations would continue to unravel.

“We’re still early, but it’s a lot of excitement,” Cal McNair said in an interview at the NFL’s annual league meetings.

Entering the 2025 season, Houston remains one of four teams whose headquarters, workout facilities and workspace remain inside the stadium, joining the Cincinnati Bengals, the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers. As of now, the Texans are the only team looking to move outside the building and into a new location.

This was rumored to be in effect when the Texans discussed building a potential new stadium last month once their lease was up at NRG Stadium after the 2030 season. But because NRG Stadium, which is owned by Harris County, often hosts other events during the Texans season, most practices occur next door at the open field or in the team's bubble.

The move would mark the second significant team move in the Greater Houston area over the last two seasons. Last summer, the Houston Rockets built a new 75,000-square-foot headquarters just several minutes away from the Toyota Center. Before the move, the Rockets' headquarters was inside the arena on the second and third level.

“I think there is a lot of growth opportunity,” Hannah McNair told Alexander. “We’re at an inflexion point. When we talked to [Texans team president] Mike (Tomon) in the interviews, that’s what we said to him.

“We’re ready to take off and I think there’s a lot of opportunity in front of us.”

The Texans are currently focused on winning the draft when on the board starting at pick No .25. They'll have seven picks starting on April 25.
